Property Data Resources
Combined Chemical Dictionary
Core property data for +500,000 substances, including 285,000 organic compounds. CCD is a combined search engine for several dictionaries including Dictionary of Organic Compounds, Dictionary of Natural Products and Dictionary of Inorganic and Organometallic Compounds. The dictionaries can be searched separately from CHEMnetBASE.
CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics
Core handbook of property data, including standard data as well as more specialized topics. Use the substance/property search.
ChemIndex/ChemFinder
Basic property data for 100,000 substances, with links to additional data on other websites. Access is tied to your CambridgeSoft account, which you created to download ChemDraw. You'll need your CambridgeSoft username and password and one of the non-expired serial number found in 'My Downloads' on your account page.
Merck Index
Basic chemical, property and use information (with literature references) on 11,200 significant chemicals, drugs and biological substances.
Properties of Organic Compounds
Property data for 29,000 organic compounds. Similar to the Dictionary of Organic Compounds that is part of Combined Chemical Dictionary, but with more data (including spectra).
NIST Chemistry Webbook
Data (including thermodynamic, gas chromatography and kinetic) for 70,000 substances.
Knovel
Combined database/e-book collection, including some titles with interactive content. Includes several sets of critical tables as well as resources for thermodynamic and safety data.
SciFinder (more about using SciFinder Scholar and SciFinder Web)
- Search the CAS Registry for your substance by name or CAS Registry number (CAS-RN). In SciFinder Scholar go to Locate and search by Substance Identifier. In SciFinder Web go to Substances and search by Substance Identifier. Bring up the Registry record to view associated property data, both Experimental and Predicted.
- There are more than 1 billion predicted property values, and more than 2 million experimental property values. The values might be present, or you might see "full-text" with a reference number. Go to the bibliography at the end of the data to find the citation of the article where your data is located.
- You can also search Chemical Abstracts for articles by searching your chemical and desired property as a Research Topic search (start with References in SciFinder Web and Explore in SciFinder Scholar). A topic search on "enthalpy of bromobenzene" will give you articles like Thermodynamic properties of bromobenzene from 0 to 1500.deg.K and Thermodynamic functions for halogenated benzenes.
Beilstein
Indexes data for 11 million organic compounds. Search by CN (Chemical Name) or RN (Registry Number). Each data "instance" has at least one reference to the chemical literature, mostly journal articles. Use the full-text link to locate the article online and/or print via UC-eLinks.
